Establishing himself as an artist with a quadruple threat—singer, actor, dancer, songwriter— all before the age of ten, Shane Harper is a rising talent who continues to evolve with each new project. On the music side, Harper’s self-titled album is being released exclusively through Target across the US on February 14th, 2012, which is also the artists nineteenth birthday. The album was executive produced by Adam Anders (Executive Music Producer of Glee and the upcoming film Rock of Ages) through Anders’ record label, Deep Well Records. Anders discovered Harper through Myspace and signed the young artist who wrote and co-wrote almost every song on the album. Harper was thrilled to have the opportunity to write on his debut album, blending his personal experiences into each song.
The first single, “One Step Closer” was a Top 10 hit on Radio Disney, while the current track, “Rocketship” is currently positioned in the Top 20. Of his experience on working with Anders, Harper says, “It’s so incredible to record an album under the direction of someone I respect and who is so extremely talented—his musical genius is very much appreciated in helping me put forth my debut album.” In 2011, “One Step Closer” was featured on the in-store playlists for Abercrombie & Fitch’s Hollister stores. Harper premiered the single on the Disney Channel’s TV series, Good Luck Charlie of which he has a recurring role. In the spring of 2011, Shane Harper had the opportunity to hit the road opening for Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson. The tour landed Shane on stages in over 20 cities throughout the US and was a great opportunity for his fans to see him perform live while he quickly won over new fans in the process. Shane comments, “After working so hard on writing these songs, to be able to get out and perform them live and to see the positive reaction has been an incomparable experience. I’m really looking forward to doing more shows, connecting with my fans and sharing new music with them.” Harper began dancing at the age of nine, and began competing in regional amateur dance competitions until the age of 14 when he began working in the entertainment industry. Since then he has appeared in Nickelodeon’s show Dance on Sunset, So You Think You Can Dance, as well as a principal dancer in High School Musical 2. Harper grew up playing the guitar, which helped him define his sound with his new album and is why each of his songs has the guitar prominently featured. As an actor, besides his role on Good Luck Charlie, Harper has landed roles on Wizards of Waverly Place, Zoey 101, and in the films My Name is Kahn and Flipped. On his down time, Harper continues to train himself in martial arts. He grew up practicing Kempo Karate, and had his black belt by 13. Harper credits martial arts with teaching him discipline and respect at a young age. Originally from Oceanside, CA, moved to Irvine, CA at the age of 5, Harper currently lives in Los Angeles. He was trained at the South Coast Performing Arts Center and was homeschooled. His grounded perspective on his gaining success is attributed to his supportive parents and family. |
