Keaton Simons, described by the Los Angeles Times as “an old soul in a young man’s voice,” has it all, as a singer, songwriter, composer, producer, musical director, guitarist and pianist. Keaton recently captivated television viewers when he performed a touching rendition of his song “Unstoppable” for the participants of VH1’s Celebrity Rehab. The 33-year-old’s genuine love and passion for music shines through during his performances around the world, and his fans are eagerly awaiting the release of his sophomore album and the next stage of his career.
Keaton has been in the studio hard at work on his new album, collaborating with producer Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat, One Republic), who has called Keaton an incredible multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Keaton is intimately involved with the whole recording process, creating the musical arrangements in his songs and adding the instrumental elements into the mix, a show of his great versatility. One of the song on the album entitled “Is There Any Other Way?” was written by Keaton and Jason Mraz. In his early 20s, Keaton composed the music for the motion picture Mercy Streets. His work led him to sign a record deal with Maverick Records, releasing a five-song EP in 2004 entitled Currently. Soon after, Maverick was taken over by Warner Bros. and Keaton was left without a deal. Rather than be discouraged, Keaton continued touring and making music, eventually signing with CBS Records in 2008 and releasing his first full length album, Can You Hear Me, produced by Grammy award winner Dave Bianco (Bob Dylan, Tom Petty). His songs began appearing on hit television shows, including CSI, Numbers, Ghost Whisperer, Crash and NCIS. Keaton won the Hollywood Music in Media Award in 2010 for his song “Grim Reaper,” which appeared in NCIS and Crash. One of the songs that Keaton co-wrote for the album, “Black and White”, was picked up by Disney for its film Prom, renamed “We Could Be Anything” and rerecorded by singer Nolan Sotillo. Discovering his love of music at an early age, Keaton was born and raised in Los Angeles,California, into a creative family with a father who was a television producer and a mother who was an actress. He began playing piano by ear before he could talk, and picked up the guitar at age 12. By the time he was a teenager Keaton knew he wanted a career as a musician, and earned his bachelor’s degree in Ethnomusicology at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. His studies exposed his curious mind to the diversity of music around the world, and he immersed himself in everything from classical composition and jazz, to blues and rock. After graduating and returning home to Los Angeles, Keaton pursued his career and has since ratcheted up a resume that reflects the hard work, passion and dedication that he has invested in his career. Keaton has worked and shared the stage with notable acts like Gnarls Barkley, Black Eyed Peas, Snoop Dogg, Tre Hardson of the L.As. alternative rap group the Pharcyde, Coldplay, Chris Isaak, Guster, Five For Fighting, and Josh Kelley, with whom he co-wrote three songs for one of Kelley’s albums. Keaton has performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Last Call with Carson Daly, where he performed with Ben Harper at the Coachella Music Festival and at the United Nations. Keaton’s soothing voice, personal and heartfelt lyrics, and sweet melodies, along with his down to earth character, give listeners a joyous musical experience. “My ultimate goal from my creations is to have it be as clear a window from the deepest part of myself straight out to the world. And my goal is to get more and more honest, more and more candid,” he says. Look at for Keaton’s latest CD next spring.
